Through the Prevention Network grant project, Making it Count Community Development Corporation is using a combination of information dissemination, education, alternative activities, environmental, and community-based process to increase awareness about health disparities disproportionately affecting Youth, Black, Brown, Hispanic and LGBTQ+ populations with geographic emphasis in Wayne County. False information being spread through the community is a barrier that increases stigma and reduces access to care. To help change this we are training youth and adult leaders in media literacy to become brand ambassadors and share factual information through social media channels. We used the Community Action Model and training provided by the Center for Black Health and Equity to build the Detroit Wayne County Oakland Tobacco Free Coalition. This coalition includes over 90 volunteers from all sectors of the community and is working hard to help us Spread Facts:Share Love.
